Ships Project

The Schepenproject/Ships Project was unveiled in the Osdorp neighbourhood of Amsterdam on 5 March, 2014. Together with local residents, artists Mirjam Bakker and Wil van Blokland created four ships for the large entryways of the Scheepvaartkwartier (Shipping Quarter) apartment complex, commissioned by Stadgenoot housing corporation.

Each of the apartment buildings is named after a type of ship. A gondola, a Portuguese galleon, a carrack and a barque have been cut out and transformed into richly ornamented ships mounted against a background of large-scale seascape photographs.
