In 2010 Wil van Blokland worked in the porcelain city of Jingdezhen in China for two months. Here, nearly all traditional porcelain in the world is produced. She used local clay, techniques and ‘knowhow’.
Her work has little in common with the exuberant, narrative Chinese porcelain. Mostly they are austere forms of porcelain, glazed straighforwardly, expressing a rich emotional world.
