Close Conversation

The sculpture ‘A Close Conversation’ was inspired by the trip Haring and Van Blokland made to Mali in 2009.
The basic aim was to construct, ‘in dialogue’, two tall towers simultaneously, similar in size and shape, but each acquiring its own individual character.
‘Working together’ was an important aspect of this project. Accepting each other’s ideas and searching for a balance in form and content proved to produce more than the mere sculpture.
Looking at the final result, it resembles ‘The King And Queen of Chess’ guarding the premises of the Frateur brickworks. I am very anxious to see what the sculpture will look like after the firing process, as by then the cotton cloths between the five parts will have disappeared and colour will affect the piece to a large extent.
